SPSS Training in January before Semester Begins

If you're looking to get a jump on learning SPSS before the spring semester begins, SSCC will be offering a training course the week of Jan 13-17th from 9:00AM-12:00PM.

We will also have a full schedule of training during the 2014 spring semester, including Stata, R, WordPress, and a qualitative data software series that will include NVivo and other programs. We will schedule these courses over the next few weeks, so please check back to the SSCC Training page for more information. Remember that all SSCC training sessions require preregistration.

SSCC's Email System to be replaced with Microsoft Office 365

Our campus is moving to Microsoft Office 365 for email and calendaring with a scheduled transition completion date of August 2014. All departmental email systems, including SSCC's, are required to shut down and move to this system. Email currently stored in the SSCC's email system or in WiscMail will be transferred to Office 365.

Departments will not be charged for use of the basic Office 365 account. It comes with 50GB of storage, which should meet the needs of almost all users. Campus is considering options that may involve a fee for departments or individuals needing additional storage.

SSCC has been running its own email service for over 25 years and we are very sad to see it go. Our help desk will continue to be the place to contact when you need assistance with email problems and we are committed to supporting Office 365 to the best of our abilities. There is an Office 365 transition site with detailed information and time lines.

Calendar Data will not be Migrated to Office 365

DoIT has determined that it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to migrate calendar data from WiscCal to Office 365. WiscCal users will need to recreate their calendars from scratch. The current calendar data will be viewable (read-only) to use as a reference when recreating appointments. Assistance will be provided to ensure historical calendar data is available to meet data retention requirements. More information is available on the Office 365 Transition site.

25 MB Message Size Limit with Office 365

Office 365 will not allow its users to send or receive messages/attachment combinations larger than 25 MB. Messages larger than 25 MB that are already on WiscMail or SSCC's email system cannot be migrated to Office 365. This currently affects approximately 200 SSCC members who use SSCC's email. We are in the process of writing a script that will notify members who have messages/attachments that exceed the limit and we plan to move these messages to a location on disk so that they are not lost. More information on the 25MB limit is available on the Office 365 Transition site.
